WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN BALAYAGE AND OMBRE

Ombré and balayage are both popular hair coloring techniques that create a seamless transition from a darker root to a lighter end. However, there are some key differences between the two:

Ombré:

  • Definition: Ombré is a French word meaning "shaded" or "shadowed." It refers to a hair color technique where the color transitions gradually from dark at the roots to light at the ends.

  • Appearance: Ombré typically creates a more dramatic, two-toned effect, with a clear distinction between the dark and light sections.

  • Technique: The hairstylist/ colorist applies the lighter shade to the ends of the hair and gradually blends it up towards the roots.

Balayage:

  • Definition: Balayage is a French word meaning "sweeping." It refers to a free-hand hair coloring technique that creates a natural, sun-kissed highlight effect.

  • Appearance: Balayage typically results in a softer, more subtle transition between the dark and light sections.

  • Technique: The colorist hand-paints the color onto the hair, sweeping the brush in a free-hand motion to create a customized look.
